Panzer II “Luchs” - Weeks 70-72

Saumur on left, PF luchs on the right

One of the main wheels with the new metal ring installed with bolts. These wheels are in position 1, 3 and 5 on the hull.

The original Luchs wheel is two piece and the metal ring with bolts were to hold them together, our wheels were created as one, so the metal ring is for decoration only. If you look you can also see the variations/ridges in the wheel, just like the originals.

One of the waffle pattern wheels. These are in position 2 and 4 and have two wheels per swing arm.

Starting to put the wheels back on.

Lining up nicely.

Wheels on with the newly manufactured track (well around 8 years ago, has been sitting waiting for these projects), looks a little bare without the return roller and drive sprocket, but you are starting to get the picture.

Dave with his press mold to make the ridges for the ammo boxes.

Another view

Dave working on the 10 magazine ammo box, each luchs has 33 magazines, (3) 10 magazine box holders and (1) 3 magazine box holder.

Michael installing the wire mesh over the air intakes on the engine cover. What isn't shown was the mesh was put in an acid bath to remove the galvanized coating.

Closer view of the wire mesh, we were able to match it very close to the original mesh.

Mike and Joey in for the weekend to do some work and to help put on the wheels.

Michael putting on the turret ring.

Something a little different, we had these straps made for the Luchs, they go on the wall to hold the power cables for the radios

Saumur, you can see the slimmer straps above the 80 watt umformer holder.
